Contraceptive implant (Implanon)

As midwives, we know you and your body. We take plenty of time for you, offer a familiar environment, and make sure the placement is as comfortable as possible.
Implanon is a flexible rod the size of a matchstick (4 cm long and 2 mm wide). It is placed just under the skin of your upper arm. The rod gradually releases a small amount of progestogen. This prevents ovulation and makes the cervix less accessible to sperm.
You no longer have to think about taking the pill every day. It is one of the most reliable forms of contraception. It is also suitable if you are breastfeeding or if you cannot or do not want to use estrogen.
Removal
Once the rod is removed, the hormones completely leave the body within a few days. In principle, you can get pregnant again from the day the rod is taken out. Usually, the first ovulation occurs about 3 weeks after removal.
