Preparing for the Maternity Week

The intake appointment

Around the 30th week of your pregnancy, we will contact you to schedule
an intake appointment. If this is your first baby, we will visit you at home for the intake. If this is your second (or subsequent) pregnancy, the appointment can also take place by phone or video call.

During the intake, the consultant will take plenty of time for you. She will explain what you can expect from our maternity care during your delivery and postpartum period. She is also interested in getting to know you and your family. What are your wishes for the maternity week? Are there any specific considerations our maternity nurse should take into account?

This information will be recorded in your maternity care file. During your postpartum period, your maternity nurse will use this file to track how you and your baby are doing. It also contains many tips and pieces of advice that you can always refer back to—either to prepare in advance or during your maternity week. We will also provide an indication of the number of maternity care hours you are entitled to.

The consultant will also explain which materials you’ll need for your baby, the (home) birth, and the postpartum period (for example, bed risers). These materials can be ordered through us.
